The role of an IC is complex. I see an IC as a combination of a teacher, a student, a department head and an adminsitrator because the roles overlap; at times, the IC is a facilitator, and at other times the IC is a learner working with teachers for teachers and students-by no means is the role of an IC to evalauate or judge the teacher. Regardless of the specific role that the IC is executing, the beauty of the job is that it is constantly evolving, and in a way, while the teachers are learning about collaborative inquiry and finding potential solutions, the IC, in return, is also learning from the teachers!

ic'S IN A NUTSHELL!

When I first started this assignment, I decided to reach out to an Instructional technology resource coach in our board as I had attended many of her PLC's before, and had met her very briefly in the past. She was the one who decided to help me out and send out a message to all of Peel's IC's to see if anyone would have time time to help me out. She did warn me that due to the summer, I probably will not hear back, so at this point I waited for a response but also continued to do my own research on public platforms that instructional coaches communicate on. This is where I came across the 'LearnTeachLead' organization which is directly affiliated with the Ministry and the board's coaches. I did reach out and posted in the conversations, but no one had replied. I then decided to watch a webinar and partake in the online chat, which was informative, but did not answer my questions on collaboration and how collaboration is established in this role. I also tried to join some instructional coach teams (such as the LNS Collaborative Inquiry team) but I required ministry approval for those so I was prohibited. I then decided to reach out to my colleague from a school that I had used to work at because I knew that he had just finished his first year as an instructional coach. To my surprise, he had actually emailed me back but he was on vacation in Israel so he was unable to chat regularly. However, he was kind enough to answer my question about collaboration very briefly, and that is the passage that I quoted at the very top of this page. I then took this information, and the information I learned from 'LearnTeachLead' and decided to modify the collaborative inquiry cycle by thinking in the role of an IC to determine the steps that he/she would take in any given situation. Conclusively, I think that summertime is primarily the main reason why it was so difficult to get a hold of anyone, but I am keeping my membership with 'Learnteachlead' in the hopes of learning from some teachers in the fall and acquiring new resources!
